Ultimate Bridal Party Beauty Guide: Essential Hair, Makeup, & Skin Tips for a Flawless Wedding Day

Arrival:
Please make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The time listed on the contract is when the makeup artists (MUA) start services, not when you should be arriving. You’ll need time to park, find the venue or room, and get settled before we begin. If you’re rushing in last minute and perspiring, the MUA will need to wait for you to cool down before starting. Arriving early keeps everything running smoothly and ensures a stress-free day for everyone!

Wardrobe:
To make wardrobe changes easier, please wear a button-down shirt or tank top. This will allow you to easily change after your hair and makeup services are completed without disrupting your look.

Skin Prepping:
On the wedding day, you may apply a hydrating moisturizer or toner before your session begin. Hydrated skin works better with makeup, while dry skin can cause makeup to apply unevenly or cling to dry patches. Please come with a freshly cleansed, makeup-free face. If anyone is planning to get facial waxing, be aware that it can affect how makeup adheres to the skin. If you choose to wax, I recommend European Wax Center—they use high-quality wax that is safe for the face. Threading, on the other hand, may cause irritation or breakouts, so proceed with caution.

Eyebrow Grooming:
Depending on the MUA, they may tidy up a few stray eyebrow hairs, but they usually do not offer full eyebrow shaping or grooming services. Unshaped or unruly eyebrows can affect the final look of your makeup, so please ensure your preferred grooming is done before you arrive.

Hair Prepping:
Please shampoo your hair the night before and ensure it is dry before your hair session begins. Blow-dry your hair and use only a minimal amount of conditioner, as too much conditioner or freshly washed hair can prevent curls and hairstyles from holding throughout the day. If the hairstylist needs to blow-dry your hair, they may charge an additional fee, and it will take up valuable time during your session. If you must wash your hair on the day of, do so at least an hour before your appointment to allow your hair to dry completely.

Hair and Makeup for the Bridal Party:
Bring inspiration photos of the makeup looks and hairstyles you want to achieve as a reference for the artists. Also, bring any hair accessories or false lashes (if you have a specific style in mind) you’d like to wear.

Lip Touch-Ups for the Bridal Party:
Bridesmaids and mothers, don’t forget to bring your lip color to touch up throughout the wedding day.

Skin/Makeup Sensitivity and Hair Concerns:
If you have very sensitive skin or eyes, please bring your own makeup brushes, sponges, and cosmetics for your artist to use to avoid any allergic reactions. If you have specific skincare, makeup, or hair products or tools you prefer, feel free to bring them to the session and let your artist know about any concerns.

Eyelash Extensions:

If you’re considering eyelash extensions for the big day, they can be a beautiful, low-maintenance option for enhancing your eyes without the need for strip lashes or heavy mascara. Extensions last longer and offer a more natural look than traditional false lashes, making them perfect for a long wedding day and the following honeymoon.

However, it’s important to schedule your lash appointment at least 3-5 days before the wedding. This allows time for any potential irritation to subside and for the lashes to settle into place. Make sure you visit a reputable lash technician with experience in bridal looks. Avoid any moisture, steam, or oil-based products around the lashes post-application, as these can weaken the adhesive bond. Additionally, let your makeup artist know in advance if you have extensions so they can avoid applying extra mascara or other products that may damage the lashes.

Minimize Delays:
To prevent delays and tension, most MUAs request that all hair and makeup services be provided in the same room or location. This prevents the need to re-pack and re-set up equipment, which can cause a 15-minute delay each time. Keeping everyone in one place ensures services flow smoothly and on time.
