Valentine's Day Weekend
Wow. What a weekend! I haven't had the chance to breathe at all so I've been neglecting my blog for awhile. First off, I'm sorry. I don't have any great excuse for ya and nor do I feel like I should be making something up just for the sake of it. So the only thing I can really say to you is that I'm sorry. I've been busy. Mostly sick, but I'm feeling a lot better already. Back to my weekend. My girl friends and I have all been waiting for Valentine's Day for quite some time now. We'd talk about it in the car, at my house, during lunchtime. I even got a couple of text messages from my guy friends asking me who "the lucky man" was going to be this year. Disclaimer* Contrary to everyone's belief that I'm a so-called player, I haven't had a male Valentine in three years. Haha. Anyway, the days leading up to the 14th was nothing short of exciting. I coughed like a madwoman so I tried my best to avoid any contact with the public. For the first time this year, I even skipped out on the gym for five consecutive days. It wasn't because I didn't feel like I was strong enough, I just knew that it was better for me to get my rest and not infect people with my cold. I kept my diet extremely healthy and filled my tummy with lots of liquids (tea, water, lemon water, chia water, fruit smoothie). You name it. Somehow, I kind of pictured myself going on a date with someone and later running straight to the bathroom in the middle of our dinner because of my usual cough attack. Yeah---I have quite the imagination.
Morning of the 14th - I woke up, ate my breakfast, read my text messages, went to a promotions event in Torrance, and then drove back home. It has definitely been a crazy week for me. I knew I was going to surprise my girlfriend the next day in San Diego for our Valentine's Day celebration, but I had to make sure that everyone kept it a secret. It was difficult only because 1) I am a horrible liar 2) It's just out of my natural habitat to be doing something like this for someone. I'm not the biggest fan of cheesy things; however, all week, I imagined her reaction when I show up to her front doorstep and let me tell ya, it was more than worth it.
Throughout the day, I would receive messages from people who'd ask me to hang out. Although I appreciate the initiative, it ticked me a little that they all made it seem so 'casual.' C'mon, guys. We all know what today is. If you wanted to take me out on a date, at least be assertive enough to do so. Because of that, I decided to decline every offer...which to me, was also a surprise. Around 7 PM, I decided to text a good girl friend of mine and see if she wanted to celebrate the evening with me. She was so touched by my message, I knew that I have chosen the right person. What can I say? I'm a gal's gal.
February 15th - This date was special to me because four years ago, I met my then boyfriend on this very beautiful day. A year after that, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Two years after that, I was in my office crying because our relationship was falling apart.
Three years has passed. It has been exactly three years since I've had a boyfriend. I haven't actually dated anyone since then and it has also been awhile since I've invested any feelings toward someone. In a way, it really does make me feel nostalgic, but at the same time, very liberating. My heart belongs to no one other than myself and my career. In a strange way, I personally feel like I'm more of a woman now than I've ever been.
This year, February 15th was more than I could ever ask for. I had the opportunity to celebrate different kinds of love. The love that I have for my friends. The love that I have for dance, for music, and for life. While I didn't get the chance to have a "romantic" date like I originally had planned, I knew that what I received was beyond what I had anticipated. So thank you to everyone who was a part of such a special holiday. Dannii and I went to our fifth event together. I successfully surprised my girlfriend (her reaction was absolutely priceless). Got to enjoy the evening with amazing people. And by the end of the night, I completely exhausted myself, which was the plan all along. I have been meeting a lot of people since I've graduated college and if there is one thing I learned, it's that people (who are worth it) will always make an effort to stay in my life. It's a fortunate thing to have genuine people and just looking back at this past weekend, I'm very happy with those who are in mine.
Hope you all had a great Valentine's Day weekend. Until next time, take care!
